Sowing the Word — Part 1.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Matthew 13:23 (KJV).
The varying results of gospel preaching are due not primarily to the Sower or the seed but to the ground. Jesus narrated the parable of the man who went to the field to sow the seed. The seed is God's word, as seen in Matthew 13:23.
There are four classes of people who heard the word. The difference among these four categories of people is in their hearts, which points to their attitudes. Their attitude is their mindset, their heart, and it presents the ground or soil. For the seed to germinate and flourish, it must be sown in suitable soil and during the right season. Among the four categories of hearers, the people that listened to the word and received it in their hearts are the ones that benefited from the word.
The seed represents the word of God falling on hard hearts and ears that don't want to listen. The enemy of God, like the birds, snatches the seed away. The enemy is fighting hard to ensure the word of God is not planted in your heart. The enemy makes you busy with everything religion except with planting the word of God. The enemy knows that the word is all you need to have all your needs.
You are destroyed not because you sinned but because you lack knowledge. You are fighting hard to be righteous before God, not knowing you are unrighteous. You think righteousness is living an entire sound Christian life, a life without blemish. That is where you got it wrong. When Moses and Aaron were stopped from entering the promised land, it was because of their unbelief. Abraham believed in God, and it was credited to him for righteousness.
Righteousness is to believe in God. You cannot believe in God if you doubt the word of God. For it is with your heart that you believe unto righteousness, and with your mouth, you confess unto salvation. Your heart is the soil, the ground where the seed of the word germinates and flourishes. Note that your belief matters.
