Sowing the Word — Part 3.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Matthew 13:23 (KJV).
The word is near you, in your mouth and heart, the word of faith we proclaim. The word should not just remain in the Bible. It has no power if it is left in the Holy Bible. For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. The word of God is inactive when it is in the Bible. It is active and alive in your heart and mind.
The creative power of the word of God can be experienced only through your heart and mind. The compelling power of the word of God can be demonstrated through the power of your mouth and tongue. Until you speak the word, God cannot stand behind his word to perform it. The word of God you speak that has not been planted in your heart is all weak and, in some cases, ineffective.
The Word of God is required to grow in the heart and develop into a successful harvest. To have fruit means the Word of God has accomplished the promise in your life. It comes to completion and full maturity. It brings about the results of what was promised. The growth pattern is; first, you do not sit, walk, or stand in the ways of the world where your thought, life and heart are conformed and entangled with the atmosphere and culture of this age. Instead, you delight in the word, seek it with great enthusiasm, read and study it, and then reflect and meditate on it.
There is a reason the psalmist is hiding God's word in his heart. The psalmist knows he is a sinner, and having the treasure of God's word hidden in a safe yet accessible place will help him fight against sin. We are all in a battle against sin. With the blood of Jesus at your reach through your mouth, you have overcome. You’re fighting a good fight of faith.
