The Sure Word for Today

Expressing Love.

Key Bible Verse:
“My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.”
— 1 John 3:18

The Affirmation
We express love through action and truth. Our words are supported by care, service, honour, and consistent choices that strengthen our marriage daily.

Expressing Love | Part 6

The Sure Word Devotion
Day 6: Honour Their Needs
Love becomes visible when you honour the needs of your spouse. Every person receives care differently. What feels loving to you may not be what your spouse needs most. Love in deed and truth requires attention, humility, and willingness to understand. You do not express love only in the way that is easiest for you. You learn what strengthens the one you love.

Honouring needs does not mean obeying every demand or losing healthy boundaries. It means listening carefully, observing wisely, and responding with respect. Your spouse may need reassurance, practical help, quality time, affection, encouragement, rest, or honest conversation. When those needs are ignored repeatedly, love may be spoken but not felt. When those needs are honoured, emotional safety grows and connection becomes stronger.

Today, ask what your spouse needs from you in this season. Do not assume. Do not defend. Listen and respond with maturity. Choose one need you can honour today through action. If your spouse needs rest, support them. If they need attention, be present. If they need encouragement, speak life. Love becomes meaningful when it meets the real need with truth, care, and consistency.

Connect: Your Challenge and Response
You may express love your own way and miss what your spouse truly needs. Respond by asking, listening, and honouring one real need today.

Extend: Faith in Action
Ask your spouse, “What do you need from me this week?” Listen without defending, then take one practical action today that supports their answer.

Reflection and Application
What does my spouse need most now?
Have I assumed instead of asking?
What need have I overlooked?
How can I respond with maturity?
What action will show honour today?

Inspirational Quote by Jefferson Otonbara Imgbi
“Love honours the real need, not just the easy gesture. Listen carefully, respond wisely, and let your spouse experience care that is personal and true.”

Let Us Pray
Father, teach us to honour each other’s needs with wisdom and love. Remove selfishness and assumption from our hearts. Help us listen carefully, serve sincerely, and express love in ways that strengthen trust, connection, and peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
